A long time ago, there was no moon in the sky at night. There was only one sun shining all the time, day and night. And that sun always looked sad.
One day, a bird went to meet him:
- Why are you crying, sun? asked the little bird.
- Because I’m way too hot! answered the sun, tears in his eyes. I would like to refresh myself a little.
So the bird went to fetch water from a river, put it in its beak and sprinkled the sun.
But that did not matter: the sun was always hot.
Another day, a butterfly came to see him:
- Why are you crying, sun? asked him.
- Because I’m way too hot! Replied the sun, moaning. I would like to refresh myself a little.
Then the butterfly flapped its wings very hard to send fresh air to the sun.
But that did not matter: the sun was always hot.
The sun was crying all the time. Nothing seemed to refresh him.
Then one day, her friend the moon came to see him:
- Why are you crying, sun? asked her.
- Because I’m way too hot! Replied the sun, letting a teardrop on his cheek. I would like to refresh myself a little.
Then the moon, who was very kind, said to him:
- Why do not you go for a swim in the ocean? All this water would surely refresh you!
- That’s right, you’re probably right, but I can not leave the sky alone. And who would watch over the Earth then? worried the sun.
- Do not worry about that! interrupted the moon. If you want, while bathing in the ocean, I will stay in the sky and watch over the Earth.
- That is true? Would you do that? asked the sun.
- Of course! You are my friend, answered the moon.
Then the sun went into the ocean to cool off. This moment was called sunset. And the moon took its place in the sky.
And so, in the sky, there is the sun in the day and the moon in the night.
